On the other hand, Wild Turkey and Old Grand Dad are cheap, but are so good on their own that I don’t like to let them be mixed. Evan Williams Black Label is my go-to for bottom shelf mixer, but still good (no Jack Daniels or Early Times in my house!)

I actually prefer the even cheaper Heaven Hill black label to this (same distillery, more woody, not quite a smooth or sweet, a bit more interesting imo). Vaguely comparable to Jack Daniels (both are charcoal filtered btw), but Jack tastes of wood and maple syrup where Evan Williams is almost all maple syrup and amber to Jack's dark grade at that.
